Top 10 Best Tonneau Cover for Chevy Colorado Reviews

Pickup trucks are great for hauling equipment, luggage, tools, and whatnot. However, keeping your cargo secure is a constant concern whenever you leave your stuff unattended.

That’s where a tonneau cover helps:

Available in different styles and designs, including roll-up, retracting, and tri-fold ones, they can be a simple but sleek solution to your problem.

But what’s the best tonneau cover for Chevy Colorado, though?

I’ve rounded up some models that check all the boxes, so be sure to read my reviews and find out!

The 10 Best Tonneau Cover for Chevy Colorado reviews in 2020

1. Tyger Auto Top T3 Soft Tri-Fold Truck Tonneau Cover

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="600"]Tyger Auto Top T3 Soft Tri-Fold Truck Tonneau Cover Tyger Auto Top T3 Soft Tri-Fold Truck Tonneau Cover[/caption]

Ease of installation, incredible functionality, and protection that come at a pocket-friendly price tag – that’s why the Tyger Auto T3 soft tri-fold cover consistently ranks as the best Chevy Colorado tonneau cover you can get these days.

What made me instantly drawn to this one – and gave it an edge over the other Colorado ZR2 tonneau covers – was its surprisingly durable construction. The quality materials used in its design make it much more than an average aftermarket soft truck bed cover you’re used to seeing.

The marine-grade dual-coated vinyl tarp is paired with a frame composed out of powder-coated aluminum, weather-tight sealing, and stainless steel clamps that ensure a secure fit.

When you want year-round protection from the elements – and theft – these are the things that matter the most.

It comes with integrated crossbars that provide rigidity and structural strength, yet fold up conveniently with the rest of the cover in instances where truck bed access is needed. You can drive when the cover is open, as it comes with handy clips to keep it secure.

Oh, and it’s super easy to use, too – and that’s always a plus in my book!

The only downside is that installing it on over-the-bedrail bed-liners does require some slight modifications, which messes with the otherwise tool-free, five-minute installation.

Pros:

  • Sturdy design provides year-round protection
  • Crossbars add rigidity and make it easy to fold
  • Two clips secure the cover in an open position
  • Leads to a slight increase in mileage
  • Simple, tool-free installation

Cons:

  • Installation may require modifications
It combines the everyday convenience and functionality of a tri-fold hard tonneau cover with the pocket-friendly nature of a soft one – and there’s no other cover on the market that does this as good as the Tyger Auto T3.

2. BAK BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Tonneau Cover

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="600"]BAK BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Tonneau Cover BAK BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Tonneau Cover[/caption]

If you own a 2015-2020 Chevy Colorado and want to protect your investment with the best Chevy Colorado hard tonneau cover, this is it. Seriously, though, the BAKFlip MX4 is the ultimate truck upgrade you can get.

The cover’s main selling points – and the reason why I think so highly of this model – are its functionality, security, and simplicity.

The four aluminum panels are designed to be scratch- and UV- resistant, and are so robust and reliable that they can handle up to 400 pounds of load! Plus, they do an exceptional job of providing security against theft and standing up to any outdoor element imaginable.

My favorite part is that it’s surprisingly easy to install and operate. It can be opened on either side – even when the tailgate is up. And, it features buckles on each of the folds, which gives you as little or as much access to the truck’s bed as you’d like.

It’s this convenience that makes it a suitable option for those truck owners who are always on the go and live a very active lifestyle.

The downside is, of course, the hefty price tag. Then again, you’ve invested quite a bit of cash in your truck; paying a bit more to protect that investment is not only worth it but highly recommended, too.

Pros:

  • UV- and scratch-resistant aluminum panels
  • Features buckles on each fold
  • Can be propped up for 100-percent bed access
  • Rated at up to 400 pounds of load capacity

Cons:

  • A costly option
There are but a few hard tonneau covers that I trust as much as BAKFlip MX4 to protect my truck bed’s contents from both the weather and potential thieves – and I’m more than willing to pay the premium price for it!

3. ZR 6.2ft Truck Bed for 05-19 GMC Canyon & Chevy Colorado Pickup Soft Vinyl Clamp-On Roll-Up Lock Waterproof Tonneau Cover

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="599"]ZR 6.2ft Truck Bed for 05-19 GMC Canyon & Chevy Colorado Pickup Soft Vinyl Clamp-On Roll-Up Lock Waterproof Tonneau Cover  ZR 6.2ft Truck Bed for 05-19 GMC Canyon & Chevy Colorado Pickup Soft Vinyl Clamp-On Roll-Up Lock Waterproof Tonneau Cover[/caption]

Shopping for the best tonneau cover for Chevy Colorado can be quite a stressful task when you don’t have tons of money to spend on it. That’s one of the reasons why this ZR roll-up cover landed on my list – it’s the most inexpensive solution you’ll come across, yet it doesn’t feel cheaply made at all.

Compared to some other brands and products I’ve tested, this one certainly isn’t an industry-leading name. That doesn’t mean that it’s not worthy of your time, though:

The cover is constructed out of double-sided vinyl and reinforced to be resistant to UV rays and cold, which ensures top performance in even the harshest of conditions.

Plus, I like that it comes with low-profile crossbars attached to the tarp, which makes it a whole lot easier to roll up, and helps maintain a smooth, flat look when the cover is closed. It features a handy tension-adjusting system, too, which prevents wrinkles and sagging.

Once you roll it up – which gives you 100-percent truck bed access – you can secure it with buckles, and drive with the cover open.

However, I’m not entirely sold on its durability, and I do believe that there are some better options available in a similar price range.

Pros:

  • Grants full truck bed access when rolled up
  • Tension-adjusting system keeps the cover from sagging
  • Features Velcro along the edges
  • The most inexpensive option on this list

Cons:

  • Doesn’t feel as durable
  • Higher-quality options are available in this price range
If money is tight or you’re not quite ready to shell out on a premium-quality cover, this cheap – but functional – JJ soft roll-up cover might be worth giving a shot.

4. GatorTrax Retractable Truck Bed Tonneau Cover

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="600"]GatorTrax Retractable Truck Bed Tonneau Cover GatorTrax Retractable Truck Bed Tonneau Cover[/caption]

I’m a man of simplicity and function. I wanted a simple, manually-operated, retractable cover to keep my cargo locked and dry. And after I put this one to the test, I can confidently say that, as far as security goes, the GatorTrax is the best tonneau cover for Colorado.

What’s so interesting about this cover is that it’s constructed of LEXAN polycarbonate slats rather than aluminum ones. However, it’s still every bit as sturdy and durable as you need a hard truck bed cover to be:

It’s lightweight, resistant to moisture, extreme temperatures, and UV rays, and can easily handle up to 300 pounds of evenly-distributed load!

Also, I found it super easy to use, as it slides across sealed ball bearings, which require no maintenance, and make opening or closing the cover a smooth and effortless process. On that note, there are no moving parts to the canister’s spiral track system, so I didn’t experience any jamming, either.

The best part, however, is that you can lock the cover not only by closing the tailgate but by using the integrated key-lock, too. It locks in any position needed, as well, which only adds to the overall convenience.

The only real downside here is the price tag, which might not be best suited for those on a limited budget.

Pros:

  • Made from LEXAN polycarbonate slats
  • Comes with a key-lock for maximum security
  • Can be locked in any position
  • The spiral track system and sealed ball bearings don’t freeze or jam

Cons:

  • One of the more expensive covers
Whether it’s a work environment or a weekend get-away we’re talking about, the GatorTrax is sure to keep your cargo safe in more ways than one with its rugged design and key-lock system.

5. Gator Covers Gator EFX Hard Folding Truck Tonneau Cover

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="599"] Gator Covers Gator EFX Hard Folding Truck Tonneau Cover | GC14002 | Fits 15-19 GM Colorado/Canyon 5' Bed Gator Covers Gator EFX Hard Folding Truck Tonneau Cover | GC14002 | Fits 15-19 GM Colorado/Canyon 5' Bed[/caption]

If you’re interested in hard truck bed covers, but don’t necessarily have the budget for the BAK I already showed you, I’d highly recommend that you consider the Gator EFX, instead. It offers pretty much the same features and functionality, but at a fraction of the price.

First off, installing and operating it is as easy as it gets for a cover on rails. You’ll get all the needed hardware and mounting rails with a clamp-on system for a secure, non-invasive installation. The cover itself relies on turn-knob bolts for tightening by hand.

Another thing I liked was the overall sleek-looking design and the flush fit – and, most importantly, how tough and rugged it feels. The cover is made of aluminum panels, both top, and bottom, and coated with a scratch- and UV-resistant powder finish for improved durability.

It automatically locks when it’s closed, and keeps your stuff out of sight – and out of mind. The protection against the elements, dirt, and dust is exceptional, too:

It’s fitted with a water management system, inner drain tubes, and perimeter rubber seals that carry any water away from the truck’s bed and keep your stuff safe and dry.

The only negative here is that you have to remove the cover if you want 100-percent truck bed access; the only other option is to have it open two-thirds of the way.

Pros:

  • Heavy-duty aluminum panels with a powder-coated finish
  • Features an integrated water management system and rubber seals
  • Easy to install and remove when needed
  • Safe to drive with the cover open

Cons:

  • Only opens two-thirds of the way
Install the Gator EFX, and you won’t have to worry about your truck bed – or the cargo in it – ever again. That’s protection at its purest!

6. MAXMATE Soft Tri-Fold Truck Bed Tonneau Cover

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="460"]MAXMATE Soft Tri-Fold Truck Bed Tonneau Cover for 2015-2019 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon MAXMATE Soft Tri-Fold Truck Bed Tonneau Cover for 2015-2019 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon[/caption]

There’s an undeniable resemblance between the MAXMATE and the Tyger Auto soft tri-fold truck bed covers, and so I had to test this one out, as well. I had to see if it copies more than just the looks – and I’m glad to report that the functionality is there, as well.

Built for a 5-foot-bed Chevy Colorado from 2015 and onwards to 2019, this cover provides a glove-like fit – and insanely easy installation, too.

That’s probably the first thing that got me thinking that this one’s worth recommending. It came pre-assembled with all the essential hardware, which made the whole process a whole lot easier, and I was done setting up in less than 10 minutes.

Now, back to the actual T3-inspired design of the cover, features a marine-grade vinyl tarp and an aluminum frame with horizontal crossbars.

The latter not only adds to the structural integrity but folds along with the cover to make everything go more smoothly.

I love the addition of the Velcro straps along the edges – it’s easy to keep the tonneau cover tight and wrinkle-free, and it makes for additional protection against the water seeping into the truck’s bed.

I’m not entirely comfortable with all the plastic parts on the clamps and buckles, though, and I’m continually questioning their durability – even though they haven’t failed me so far.

Pros:

  • Combines marine-grade vinyl with an aluminum frame
  • The crossbars add to the structural integrity
  • Additional Velcro stripping along the sides
  • Comes pre-assembled and is easy to install

Cons:

  • Several plastic components of questionable durability
If anything, I recommend this one for the exceptional ease of use and no-hassle installation – it’s nearly identical to the Tyger Auto T3, and a reliable alternative to the “real deal.”

7. oEdRo Tri-Fold Truck Bed Tonneau Cover

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="600"]oEdRo Tri-Fold Truck Bed Tonneau Cover Compatible with 2015-2020 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon oEdRo Tri-Fold Truck Bed Tonneau Cover Compatible with 2015-2020 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon[/caption]

If the previously mentioned soft tri-fold cover wasn’t up to your liking, there’s one more option worth considering – the OEDRO tonneau cover. It’s a cost-effective but reliable way to protect your truck’s bed from the elements.

The main functionality of this cover comes from its roll-up design, which, as they say, kills three birds with one stone:

You get the protection from the elements, the added security of a tailgate lock, and full truck bed access whenever you need it.

The tarp, which is made from double-layer PVC, offers UV protection, as well as protection from the elements. And while it does feel a bit lighter than some other options I’ve tested, I don’t think that it’s an actual matter of quality. If anything, I like how sleek it looks, thanks to the lighter design!

The ease of operation was evident right from the start, as the cover came pre-assembled, and didn’t require any actual tools or modifications for the installation process.

It features Velcro straps along the sides, too, which hold up well regardless of the weather conditions. I’ve transported luggage in rain and snow, and this was more than enough to keep the water out of the truck’s bed.

I did, however, add the weather stripping in the bulkhead area. There weren’t any significant gaps, but it’s where the water was most likely to seep in – and I wasn’t taking any chances.

Pros:

  • The Velcro straps keep the cover tight and secure
  • An easy-to-install model with clamps
  • It’s a basic and affordable, yet functional option

Cons:

  • Doesn’t fold all the way
  • Might require additional weather stripping
As far as basic, good-looking, rolls-up-nicely, doesn’t-burn-a-hole-in-my-pocket covers go, the OEDRO is one of the best truck bed covers that serve as a quick and inexpensive fix.

8. JJ Roll-Up Tonneau Cover

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="600"] JJ 5.2ft Bed for 15-20 Chevy Colorado GMC Canyon JJ 5.2ft Bed for 15-20 Chevy Colorado GMC Canyon[/caption]

If ease of access is a top priority, then, for you, there’s no better option that a roll-up cover. Furthermore, soft roll-up truck bed covers can give you all the convenience while also being incredibly cost-effective.

One such option for the budget-conscious is the JJ cover for 2015-2020 Chevy Colorado trucks.

There are several roll-up covers featured in my best tonneau cover round-up, and there’s one thing that they all have in common:

The ability to protect your stuff from the harsh elements, while also granting you access to the truck’s bed when needed.

This model is no different and features a tear-resistant, double-sided vinyl tarp combined with an aluminum frame and rails for an added touch of durability. Plus, the low-profile, smooth look of the cover is a nice touch appearance-wise.

As for the convenience I mentioned, this one comes with built-in crossbars which are connected to the tarp and roll with it, too, to prevent the cover from bunching up and make things go more smoothly. You can get full truck bed access whenever you need it, while also having that sleek, clean look when the cover is closed.

Installing the cover was the most straightforward thing ever, but then again, I’ve done this more times than I could count. Someone who’s a bit less inexperienced might need help from the instructions manual, which, unfortunately, is poorly written and confusing.

Pros:

  • Built-in crossbars make rolling it super easy
  • Offers ease of access to 100-percent of the truck’s bed
  • Simple installation with included hardware

Cons:

  • The instructions aren’t easy to follow
  • Doesn’t fit vehicles with a utility track system and roll bars
If you want something straightforward, convenient, and easy on the wallet, this JJ soft roll-up cover will meet your needs and expectations.

9. Tonno Pro Tonno Fold 42-103 TRI-FOLD Truck Bed Tonneau Cover

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="601"] Tonno Pro Tonno Fold 42-103 TRI-FOLD Truck Bed Tonneau Cover 2004-2012 Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon Tonno Pro Tonno Fold 42-103 TRI-FOLD Truck Bed Tonneau Cover 2004-2012 Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon[/caption]

Soft tri-folding models have long been a staple in the world of tonneau covers, so you shouldn’t be surprised to see another such option included in my list. If you drive a Chevrolet Colorado with a 6-foot bed made somewhere between 2004 and 2012, you’re in luck:

This Tonno Pro cover is a budget-friendly option that’s worth giving a shot!

What’s important here is that, despite the rather low cost, this Chevy Colorado bed cover offers unmatched quality wrapped up in a nice-looking, tri-fold design.

The vinyl tarp in itself seems durable enough, but it’s the frame that gives it added structural strength and keeps everything in position. What I liked the most about the design was that the three sections are hinged together, making the cover super easy to fold while also offering protection against the elements.

I have to add that the weather sealing does the job rather well, and stands up to even the heaviest of downpours.

The installation didn’t require any tools to get things done. Instead, it relies on a simple clamp-on system, which shouldn’t take more than 5 to 10 minutes to set up, even if you’re a first-time installer.

You won’t have full truck bed access with this cover, though, because when it’s folded, it takes up about a third of the truck bed, rather than lifting all the way.

Pros:

  • The sections are hinged together for easier folding
  • Clamp-on, tool-free installation
  • Weather sealing protects your cargo from the elements

Cons:

  • It doesn’t fold all the way up
  • The clamps don’t feel very durable
When it comes to soft tri-fold covers, you can’t go wrong with the Tonno Pro – it offers a perfect balance of cost and features, keeping your stuff dry, and your wallet happy.

10. North Mountain Soft Vinyl Roll-up Tonneau Cover

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="601"]North Mountain Soft Vinyl Roll-up Tonneau Cover, Fit 04-14 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon North Mountain Soft Vinyl Roll-up Tonneau Cover, Fit 04-14 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon[/caption]

The North Mountain is yet another soft roll-up Chevy Colorado tonneau cover that’s worth considering if you don’t want to break the bank. It’s far from flimsy or cheaply made, though:

You’re getting a tonneau cover that you can rely on to ensure continued effectiveness, regardless of how extreme the weather conditions or how frequently you use it – all without overspending.

The flat-surfaced design of the cover combines tear-resistant, double-sided vinyl tarp – which is resistant to UV rays and cold – with built-in crossbars that make the cover durable enough to withstand harsh weather conditions. At the same time, it’s easy to use, too, which further adds to its functionality.

I’m a big fan of how easy it is to move it out of the way when you full truck bed access – the one-piece design pretty much rolls up like a window blind would, and has a quick, one-finger release.

Also, it sits on top of the truck’s bed rails, which helps with water drainage and minimizes the risk of having rain find its way into the truck’s bed. Plus, it doesn’t take up space in the actual truck bed.

And while the installation is generally considered straightforward, I should warn you that it takes some trial-and-error to get the positioning right. It’s smooth sailing from there, though.

Pros:

  • Tear-resistant vinyl tarp with crossbars for sturdiness
  • Rolls up for full truck bed access
  • Quick, one-finger release design
  • The top-mount design increases water run-off

Cons:

  • Takes some time to adjust it properly during installation
If all you need is a cheap way to secure your gear and keep it out of the elements, this pocket-friendly soft tonneau cover by North Mountain might do the trick.

Conclusion

I know that you’re dying to know what’s the best tonneau cover for Chevy Silverado, but the truth is, there’s no universal answer to that question. The best option is the one that fits your truck just right and makes the most sense for your daily use and needs.

Two models stood out during the testing process, though, and provided protection, security, and durability that was a notch higher than the rest – the Tyger Auto Top T3 and the Gator Covers Gator EFX

It all comes down to your budget!
